THE DoT THREATENS TO BAN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS FROM FLYING

And you and I can fix it.

LEARN ABOUT THE PROPOSAL

From the Desk of Prairie Conlon Atkinson, Wisconsin February 3, 2020

  • Dear Friend,
  • The rights of emotional support animals are under attack.
  • Yes, you read that right.
  • This new federal proposal made by the Department of Transportation (DoT) is threatening to ban emotional support animals on airlines indefinitely.
  • Taking a drastic step like forever banishing emotional support animals before further investigating reasonable accommodations, such as basic training and only allowing certain species of animals, would be a failure on the part of the airlines altogether.
  • If approved, this federal proposal would be directly discriminating against those who have mental disabilities. But, we have a chance to stop it. Together, we can make a difference by making our voices heard.
  • Please consider using a few minutes of your time to post your opinion about the proposed rule making.
  • Comment submission closes on April 6, 2020.

MAKE AN EFFECTIVE COMMENT

  • When you write your comment, you are telling your story, your thoughts, your reasoning as to why ESAs belong on airplanes.
  • But if you’re having trouble creating a clear message, take it step by step:

  • 1. Describe yourself, describe your ESA. You are more than a name and you have a story, but first you need to let them know who you are.

  • 2. Call upon a time where your ESA has helped you. No one has the authority to say your testimony is valid or invalid. Make it understood how your problem was solved directly by your emotional support animal. Get specific if you can with time, dates, airline, etc.

  • 3. End with a bang! Remind them of the repercussions their decision can bring; the standard they are setting. Fear lives in the heart of discrimination.

  • 4. Optional: If CertaPet has helped you, let it be known! We do not take our process lightly and we are not just handing out letters to anyone. So many companies out there sell certificates, registries. Some approve emotional support peacocks and emotional support beers. All in the name of money. CertaPet continues to be grouped in this category of rubber stamp paper mill companies, but unlike them, we are a telehealth company that provides referrals to therapists and their private practice. We, at CertaPet, think these companies need to be vetted. Punish the unlawful companies, not the person.

  • It is now up to you and me. Taking 5 minutes to voice our concerns can and will make a difference.
